Los Angeles, March 11, 2023

The day before the Oscars ceremony, we held a reception in Los Angeles to honour the nominated filmmakers in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic and Barrandov Studio. The event was co-hosted by the Consulates General of Germany and Austria, and the reception was held at the opulent exile villa of writer Lion Feuchtwanger in Pacific Palisades.

Among the invited guests were representatives of major Hollywood studios, leading local producers, diplomats and close relatives of the nominees, and Michal Šašek, Czech Deputy Minister of Culture for audiovision, came from Prague to support the Czech nominees. A German Minister of Culture and Media Claudia Roth was also present.

The spirit of enthusiasm and expectation carried through the festive event despite the persistent rain. The hopes of success were transformed into a great deal a day later; the film, which was shot entirely in the Czech Republic with the majority participation of Czech film professionals, won 4 Oscars in the categories of Best International Feature Film, Cinematographer, Music and Production Design.
