Lucie Charles is an experienced film producer with many years of experience. She obtained her degrees in Liberal Arts at the City University of New York (CUNY) and Film Production at the Film Academy of Miroslav Ondricek in Pisek (FAMO).
She recently opened her own production company, The Seagull Films, in Prague and has plans to open two more locations in Budapest and Seoul in 2025.
In her career, she has been involved in international productions of major projects for Netflix, Sony Entertainment, and Amazon Prime, so she has experience with global production. Thanks to her extended stay in New York, she has a broad multicultural perspective and can communicate fluently with people from different backgrounds. She collaborated on the feature films The Promised Land (2023, directed by Nikolaj Arcel, which won or has been nominated at all major festivals like Cannes, European Film Awards, Palm Springs International Festival, Danish Film Awards, Venice Film Festival), Extraction II (2023, directed by Sam Hargrave), The Avenue of Giants (2024, directed by Finn Taylor, won Miami Jewish Film Festival & Spokane International Film Festival).
Lucie has produced over three dozen short films, most of which focus on immigrant, political, and social themes. These include the documentary Viděno z nadhledu (2021, won Hollywood Gold Awards), Nam (2023, directed by Nguyen Huyen Mai, nominated at Czech Lion Awards), Brighter Days (2024, directed by Sheida Sheikhha), and The Strokes of Passion (in development, directed by Prashant Khade).
Her primary focus as a producer is to connect cultures, erase stereotypes, and create films and co-productions with producers from other countries to do so.
“In recent years, society has become increasingly individual and isolated; therefore, cinema itself has to be resilient and create films that will work with an audience.
As a filmmaker, I want audiences to be transported and become part of the character's journey. I want them to be able to find compassion and understanding no matter how far the character's culture and background are from their own. Most importantly, even in the darkest of my stories, I wish that viewers extract just a little hope and courage and that it can carry into their real lives in some small way in the current world that is very good at creating cynicism, despair, and hopelessness.”
