Xueni Yang
writer, director, actress, producer
Xueni is a screenwriter, director, lecturer who is based in Prague. She attended Sarah Lawrence College, concentrating on Animation, Film, Literature, and Social Psychology. She then successfully gained admission to the Directing Department at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), marking the beginning of her life in the Czech Republic. In 2024, her short film Fir received a nomination for Best Student Film at the 31st Czech Lion Awards and was shortlisted for the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival.
As a writer-director, she enjoys exploring psychological themes and reflecting on universal values. For example, Fishbowl deals with self-deception, “Mother” explores the concept of an ideal mother, Hush examines the relationship between the individual and the collective, and Fir addresses issues of identity.
In addition to teaching at the university, Xueni primarily participates in commercial projects in Europe as an actress and producer. Projects she has been involved in include an upcoming German feature film produced by Amazon Prime, Till Love Do Us Part, Fujifilm INSTAX advertisements, Samsung notebook product ads, and promotional videos for the Honor of Kings Turkish tournament.
