ZLÍN FILM FESTIVAL also known as the International Film Festival for Children and Youth is one of the oldest events of its kind in the world. The audience consists mainly of children and youth from the Zlín region, but also university students and adult visitors to whom late-night screening slot with appropriate dramaturgy are devoted.
The programme structure of the festival focuses above all on films for children and youth. Its programme scheme is very wide and apart from the main competitive sections of feature films for children and youth includes a competition of short animations for children, competition of students films Zlín dog, Rainbow Marble – competition of best marketing achievement or non-competitive documentaries dealing with problems of young people. In recent years are provided intensive support for young emerging filmmakers, which reflected in the competitive section of European First Films and non-competitive section of midnight movies called Night Horizons.
Screenings are accompanied by a series of seminars, workshops and entertainment events for children and teenagers. Each year the festival devotes its edition to a selected cinema of one particular European nation, so that after German, Scandinavian, Baltic, French, Russian, Dutch, British, Spanish, Czechoslovakian, Italian, Irish and Danish, in 2014, the festival visitors will be able to enjoy the best of Polish cinema. From 53rd edition new sections Young Stars wich work with young and hopeful actors and A Thousand and One Night section - films with fairy tales story with fantasy themes.
