The film distribution company Artcam was founded in 2000 by Artemio Benki, French producer and director, who lived, worked, and created in Prague since the early 90s. Since its beginnings, Artcam’s aim was to bring courageous, innovative, and provocative films that broaden the horizons of Czech distribution.
Thus Artcam has released here films of arthouse film icons such as Jim Jarmusch, David Lynch, Michael Haneke, Lars von Trier, Arnaud Desplechin, Chan-wook Park, Claire Denis or Pablo Larraín. Yet it also reveals some less known, original faces to the Czech audience, e.g. Céline Sciamma, Philippe Lesage, Héléna Klotz, Deniz Gamze Ergüven, Jayro Bustamante, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and others.
Besides foreign films, Artcam focuses on working with local feature films and documentaries (The Wolf from Royal Vineyard Street, Love Me If You Can, Brother Karel, Schmitke).
During its history, Artcam has released several films that won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, The Class, Oncle Boonmee (qui se souvient de ses vies antérieures), The White Ribbon, Love) and also those that won prizes in other sections of the festival (films such as Mommy, Underdog, L´Étage du dessous, Rak ti Khon Kaen, My Golden Days, Le Trésor, Bright Sunshine In, The Workshop, etc.)
The most recent works that Artcam has introduced to the Czech public are for instance the historical romance Portrait of a Lady on Fire awarded at the Cannes Film Festival, the Oscar-nominated documentaries Honeyland and For Sama and last but not least the feature documentary Solo by Artcam’s founder Artemio Benki awarded the Czech Joy! The best Documentary prize at Jihlava International Film Festival.
Our goal is to release films you won’t forget.
